JSlayUSA Interviews USS Liberty Survivor: “We Were Betrayed by Our Own Government”

A Voice They Tried to Silence
In a gripping episode of JSlayUSA, host Jason S. Wallace sits down with Phil Tourney, a survivor of the USS Liberty attack, for one of the most unfiltered and emotional interviews to date. Tourney recounts, in vivid detail, how an American naval intelligence ship was deliberately attacked by Israeli forces in 1967—with full knowledge and complicity from elements within the U.S. government.

“They wanted every one of us dead,” says Tourney. “And they were going to blame Egypt. It was a false flag.”

The USS Liberty: A Mission Turned Massacre
The USS Liberty was legally stationed in international waters during the Six-Day War. Despite flying a large American flag and being clearly marked, the ship was:

  • Surveilled for hours by Israeli reconnaissance aircraft.

  • Attacked at 2:00 PM by unmarked Israeli Mirage jets.

  • Hit by rockets, napalm, and machine-gun fire.

  • Torpedoed by Israeli boats—one hit killed 25 Americans instantly.

  • Denied U.S. military rescue after jets were launched and recalled twice by the highest levels of command.

The Government’s Response? Silence and Threats.
Tourney reveals that after the attack, Admiral Isaac Kidd and Captain Ward Boston conducted a rushed Navy inquiry, during which survivors were threatened with imprisonment—or worse—if they ever spoke out. For nearly 20 years, Tourney didn’t.

“You can’t see your brothers slaughtered and stay silent forever.”

A False Flag That Could’ve Sparked Nuclear War
The attack, according to Tourney, was part of a covert plan to sink the Liberty, blame Egypt, and justify full U.S. military involvement in the war. Strategic nuclear bombers were already airborne en route to Cairo. Only the Liberty’s survival disrupted the operation.

Still No Justice, No Accountability
Despite being the most decorated crew for a single engagement in U.S. Navy history, the USS Liberty story remains largely hidden from the public. Congress refuses to investigate. The media remains silent.

Tourney calls on Americans to wake up—not just to honor the past, but to prevent this kind of betrayal from ever happening again.

“It wasn’t just an attack on our ship. It was an attack on the American flag. And they’ve been getting away with it for 56 years.”
